Android Tablets
Android is the Google operating system originally designed for smartphones and which has now been redesigned to cater for tablet PC’s. One of the first things you need to know about Android is that it is a quick advancing operating system which since it’s birth has been frequently updated. Tablets using the older versions of Android, such as Froyo 2.2, are using an operating system which wasn’t really designed for tablets whilst the newer versions from Honeycomb 3.0 onwards have been designed specifically with tablet PC’s in mind.
There are is a range of Android tablets now on the market from a variety of manufacturers and with widely varying specifications and prices. In terms of specification you as a prospective buyer need to be aware that the processor speed is the main factor which determines the speed and usability of the tablet. Another vital specification is the amount of on-board storage, this can vary greatly but commonly most Android tablets will now have from 16Gb to 128Gb of storage. That storage can fill quickly when downloaded songs at 8mb each, storing 2mb photos or movies at 2-4Gb per download.
These are the Android Tablets we recommend -
Asus Eee Pad Transformer
Great battery life, awesome screen and reliable build quality make the Transformer a good option for a Android tablet. This tablet runs on Android 3.0 and has a 10.1″ so it has optimum performance on Android. An optional keyboard can be purchased to turn the Transformer into a laptop, so if you aren’t quite sure whether you want a laptop or tablet then this is the option for you. It comes in 16Gb and 32Gb options.
Asus Eee Pad Memo
Fantastic screen quality, a useful stylus so you can use handwriting and the fact that you can fit it in your pocket make the Memo a real contender. Running on Android 3.0 there are 16Gb, 32Gb and 64Gb options.
Motorola Xoom
Stylish and well built the Motorola Xoom is the current Android equivalent of the Ipad. You won’t be disappointed by it’s speedy performance and quality screen. We think Android actually needs to improve a little in order to maximise the Xoom’s potential. A real nice tablet PC as it is but expect the next generation Xoom to be awesome.
