Ipad
The Ipad made by Apple injected fresh life into the tablet pc which up until the launch of the Ipad had appeared to be an innovative, desirable but impractical device. The Ipad has made the tablet pc mainstream with a purpose made operating system, fast processor and responsive touchscreen.
Apple launched the Ipad 1 in May 2010 and have followed it up with the Ipad 2 in 2011, it seems certain that the Ipad is going to follow the Ipad business model and that we’ll see an updated version every year. The Ipad 2 sees operating system improvements, a faster processor and hardware upgrades including front and rear facing cameras. The addition of the cameras in particular rids the Ipad of one it’s major weaknesses and allows Ipad users to use iMovie and Facetime which have been so popular with Iphone users. In terms of styling the Ipad 2 also saw changes including the Smart Cover which is attached to the Ipad by a magnetic hinge and rolls back to reveal the screen, it’s a great styling upgrade which keeps the Ipad looking thin and sleek even when protected.
The Ipad is the market leader in tablets and is unlikely to be de-throned any time soon. Competitors will quickly match the Ipad 2′s hardware specification but they cannot match Apple’s reputation and the Ipad’s status as a ‘must-have’ gadget.
